New Year, New Projects: Updates On Pipette and Real Wine Retreats

2020. A new decade. A new American president (let’s HOPE). A new addition to our family — we welcomed our daughter, Simone Cleopatra, in mid-December, and I’ve been overwhelmed by love and fatigue simultaneously, as those of you who are parents will know. It’s amazing to watch our daughter growing, improving her vision and awareness of the world.

Meanwhile, when I’m not working on my swaddling skills, I’ve also managed to publish a new issue of Pipette, the print magazine about natural wines. Issue 5 is out in the wild as of February 3 — you can order your copy here!

It’s 96 pages of original, independent journalism about natural wine culture worldwide. Ships to wherever you are. This issue features the iconic Trentino winery Foradori; an interview with the first U.S. winemaker to ferment in Georgian qvevri; a story on a new natural winemaking project in Pantelleria; the scoop on “piquette” via New York winery Wild Arc Farm; and a guide to natural wine spots in Milan, Turin, and Venice, for those of you who travel — and plenty more.

And another thing for you travelers: I also took some exciting new steps with Real Wine Retreats, the natural wine tour venture I started in 2019 with a friend. It’s called Real Wine Retreats, and our initial tour brought 10 guests to Slovenia for 5 days and 5 nights.

It was a total success — every single day was filled with memorable wines and meals in incredible settings. Our lovely guests bonded so much that they are now traveling across the world to have reunions with each other, and half of them are coming back on tours this year!

For 2020, we are offering tours in Slovenia, Northern Italy, and Austria. The Slovenia tour is already full but there are two slots remaining for Italy, and we just opened up Austria to 10 guests. You can drop us a line if you’re interested via our webform.

Sorry to be brief, but it’s rare that I have two free hands these days! More soon. xxR
